OUR CHAPLAIN, OUR PEER MINISTERS, OUR GOVERNING BOARD
OUR CHAPLAIN, The Rev. Barbara Heck

Picture
It takes a team of people working together to make a vibrant campus ministry. Leading the way is the Rev. Barbara Heck who has served Rutgers Protestant Campus Ministries since 2001.

Our life together at Rutgers is about being a smaller community in the midst of the larger  Rutgers community. Trinity House is wide open space in which to meet other people and grow into the authority that Jesus has in mind for each student. It is a place to ask bigger questions and awaken to the dream that God has for the world. Together, we  discern God's truth and follow the movement of the Spirit into the vocation God has in mind of us, into our identity which we will know better through Jesus, into places around us in need of hope and grace and love.

Barbara started out in campus ministry with the Protestant Cooperative Ministry at Cornell. She served Maple and Teston United Churches of the United Church of Canada. She moved on to serve as Interfaith Coordinator at Occidental College as well as assisted the Westminster Foundation at Princeton University before landing happily at Rutgers. She received her Bachelor of Arts with Honors in German from University of Wisconsin-Madison, writing a honors thesis on peace activities in East Germany and the role of the Lutheran Church. She received her Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago during which time she did an internship at Westhampton Presbyterian Church.. When she isn't working at Rutgers, she rows with the Carnegie Lake Association or is found painting in oils with her teacher, Gregory Perkel and a beloved community of students..

Barbara can be reached at revheck at gmail.com or (609) 273-1349.

Leonora runs our Thursday Night Spirituality Group at Trinity House. She is a pre-med students who is plays on Rutgers' Tennis Team and hails from Austin, Texas.

She writes "I have really enjoyed getting to know people through the church and through Trinity House events such as Midnight Run and Thursday lunches, and I think it provides a great atmosphere that encourages students to really get to know each other as people rather than just going out and partying together. I think everyone that has come to bible studies, etc. realize that it is a very accepting and non-judgmental environment that provides for great understanding of other people rather than forcing our own beliefs."
